A asked me the other day why "W" is called double-u instead of double -v.  I explained what I knew of it, and he replied,  "So, it's really a misnomer."

In case you've forgotten, A is five.

When I asked him where he had learned that word, he said, "A Series of Unfortunate Events.  You see, Uncle Monty has a snake called the Very Deadly Viper, but it's really quite harmless, so it's a misnomer."

"Oh, right," I replied, wondering what we are raising here at Casa E.  Children who can hold lengthy conversations with adults but have few friends of their own ages--partly because no one can understand them.  (And also because they are both infuriatingly  bossy, but I'm not sure if the two are linked.)

Sigh.

I'm pleased as punch and mildly appalled at the same time.
