I just opened Ethan's "President's Award for Educational Excellence" (must score "Advanced" on either LA or Math part of standardized test--Ethan got it in both, and maintain an A- average for the entire 5th grade year) and in addition to the certificate there is a letter from Barack Obama.  I know it's a copy, but I was really touched and I don't think E has even seen it yet.

Usually, at the end of the school year, everyone is saying how excited they are for summer and I bring out the old saw about how summer is more work for Stay-at-home (non-homeschooling) moms.  And in the past that has been true.

Tom and I saw Waitress.

Lots of memories of the trip keep flooding back.  Next year we're heading to DC from whence my friend [profile] oliviach just got back, so that's got me excited.

Sorry to hear that our hot weather went East and got sticky.  (It was 105 F last week but since the weekend we've had perfect 75 to 85F weather.)

Hugs to all,

Meg

We're all doing better.  No probs with United today when calling to confirm the flight, thankfully!

Tom didn't take E to the Cub Scout Camping event this weekend and I didn't take A to Chico for the weekend.  We're just here doing Jujitsu and Soccer and the usual until Gram and Gramp go home on an early flight tomorrow morning.  HOpefully my mom will be mended enough to teach on Monday.

I bought 2 new skirts and 4 new blouses before the sickness hit because I finally found a blouse style that looks absolutely perfect on me.  Emphasizes the positive and hides much of the negative.  Two of them match the skirts, too, so that's nice.  I returned an expensive outfit I had bought for my in-laws 50th anniversary/mom's retirement party and all 6 of the new pieces cost about what the one other outfit cost!  (Mervyn's hardly ever has what I want, but when they get it right, it's cheap!)

When I find my camera recharger, etc. (lost in the computer move) I will take a picture of the new outifit(s).

So, E is doing much better but still had a low-grade fever today.  They weren't kidding when they said 3 to 7 days on the thing that's going around--and that's just the fever part.  He's left with congestion and a cough.  Yuck.

But, he's perked back up, so I'm happy.

While trapped in the house and yard the past few days I've been very productive:
And it only cost $1175.

Yeah.

But it needed to be done, really, and it's been over a year since it should have been done.  So it feels great to get it off my plate.

Even if it does eat in to my tax refund = new cupboards in the dining room fund quite a bit.

All in all, this was the most productive week I've had around the house in ages.  And I played with both my kids more than usual.  No gym frees up a lot of time.  And makes me slightly batty too!

Thanks for listening and supporting me--yesterday, especially!  You are a great flist.

I'm so bummed.

After all the opera flisters have been raving about different Met Performances and encouraging me to give opera another try, I was going to take my 8-year old (who is nuts about composers and classical music and knows WAY more classical music "themes"/composers than most adults) to see the Met's Performance of The Magic Flute at our local movie theater. (Novel way of showing it, hey?)

Early bird catches the worm and all that.

EDIT:  Well, I was early enough to get The Barber of Seville (in Italian).  Is it at all kid-friendly?  I think not, but you would know better.  I'm fine with going and having to leave before the gore (if any) or sex (if any).  If anyone knows the show, please chime in.  (He's 8, but as I said, he has mature taste in music.)

So, it was A's first day of Kindergarten and E's of 3rd grade.  Both boys took it in stride.  Me too, though I was a bit snap-happy with the camera.

No more preschoolers.  *sniffle*
