Last night started amazingly.  My very good friend,[profile] oliviach, came over to do yoga and watch "Thelma and Louise" (b/c I had never seen it and b/c Tom was out of town and b/c she wanted to see me *grins*).

However, it meant that I got to bed at about midnight (which is about an hour late).  So far, not too bad.

At 3:00 a.m., Aidan wakes me to ask if  I am really going to give his hermit crabs to oliviach and her kids.  This had come up because one of our hermit crabs had died and I was feeling like my kids weren't ready for pets and I was a bad pet grandma.  I was not best pleased to be woken in that precious first four hours, but he went back without too much fuss.

I snuggled down to resume my sleep, alone in my big bed and a bit out of it, when I began to hear

scritch, scritch, scratch

scritch, scratch, scritch

Wait a second.  That's not white noise.  SomeTHING is making that noise.

Eeep.

Turn on light to face whatever nameless hell of a creature is there to torment my sleep.

And it is the "dead" hermit crab, miraculously resurrected and sitting on top of a plastic bag which was on top of the very warm computer router.

Scritch.

Relief.

On two counts.  One, it was not a rodent.  THANK YOU, GOD.  Two, the crab had survived death, and two days without water, and was back in his little cage in two shakes.

I, however, had adrenaline pumping through my veins and did not resume my slumber until at least 4:30.

Blergh.

I feel very out of it today.

Another check mark in the "we're done having kids" column. I do not function well with interrupted sleep, and I do not return to sleep well when I am interrupted.

Sigh.

That 3 year old today at school was really tempting, though.

:)
