I'm plotting out my next section of ASOC, and it's amazing how bad I am at plot.  People have commented on my last several chapters that they were "comfortable" or "made them want to curl up with a hot cocoa", etc.  Those are far from criticisms and yet...it seems I create an atmosphere of warmth, but when it comes to moving along more than the relationships, I freeze up.

I did force myself to add a big time jump at the end of the chapter, but then I did a reread and thought "Oh, I was going to have D meet the Gardiners before he left."  LOL  I guess he'll have to meet them another time.

It's my first long piece, so I'm finding these things out as I go.  But it's not at all comfortable to see these issues revealed, and even less comfortable to contemplate them.

I am afraid that moving ahead the plot in what has almost been a real-time story (one chapter=a day or less) will totally change the feel.

I'm not really looking for feedback, although I will gladly accept it.  This is more of a "gotta write something" post to try to get the juices flowing.

...I'm so involved with my mom's visit that I totally forgot to add.  "That last chapter 17 was a fake."

So I got one of these:

So I was gonna post tonight and now someone else did and I dunno if I should wait or not.

If it were an author I was reading, I probably would, but it's not, so...

Yeah, I should probably be polite and wait till she has at least a couple reviews.  One?

Well, I'm off to watch a movie.  Alone.  Tom is out and my mom/stepdad are sleeping b/c it's 2 hours later where they're from (oh, by the way, my parents, one set at least, are here.  YEAH!)

Will post Ch. 17 later.

Chapter Sixteen of A Surfeit of Clerics can be found here.

:)

(I think I'm going to have to bribe Katharino to make a Kitty/Henry icon.  OR maybe I'll do it in Illustrator.   I actually like the Kitty from P&P3 after seeing her in Bleak House.  So maybe she and who?)

Perhaps the Doctor from Bleak House.  Too old?  Richard Armitage is too hot and a bit too old.

Must think on this.

I'm inordinately pleased to see ASOC up in the Epilogue Alley.  Seems like it's a real story.  Or something.  Also seems like I should get back to a more disciplined writing schedule.  Gulp.

For the few non-Dwiggies that read my LJ, A Surfeit of Clerics is my Work-in-Progress at Austen.com.  It's been hard to refer people to the previous chapters due to some technical glitches at the site.  But now, thanks to my faithful archiver [profile] jimmyhk, I can finally tell folks that it's all here.

Well, I assume it's all there.  I haven't got the time to go read it as I'm due in Mrs. S's 3rd grade classroom exactly...NOW!

Bye!

I thought I'd post my latest chapter here to avoid the temptation of posting so soon after Sandy's. She's my beta, after all.

So, here is my pre-post of Ch. 15 of ASOC. Thoughtfully cut to save your bandwidth, it's a big 'un )

A Surfeit of Clerics--Chapter Twelve has been posted here:  ASOC 12

Sort of spoilers, do not read if you are still in doubt of who Lizzy ends up with:

Now I just have to figure out what to do with Henry.  Kitty is not quite mature enough for him yet, but Charlotte is not nearly clever enough.   Hmmmmm.  Well, not everyone can end up with Lizzy, and I'm already happily married so no Mary Sue for him either.

This is your chance to change the course of the story.  H was always meant for K, but then he went and had a crush on L (that was not intended or foreseen).  So, what do you think.  Send him back to Kympton for Advent and Christmas and ....then what?  A sequel maybe.  I don't think he's going to find resolution in this novella.  But maybe some hint as to his future love?

Curious and muse-free,

Here is the link to: A Surfeit of Clerics--Chapter Ten

I had better start writing as I'm only 2 chapters ahead of myself now.

Yikes.

Just posted A Surfeit of Clerics--Chapter Eight

This is the one where I'm afraid I might lose a lot of my audience.  What do you think?  Too over the top?  I couldn't resist.  Really.  I tried.  I took it out and nothing else was remotely working until I put it back in.

Oh well.  Fiction writing is not for the faint of heart.

Props to Katharino for my Mary/Collins icon.  It really bolstered my courage as I prepared to post this chapter.  LOL

ASOC-Lizzy Nay-sayers (esp. Lise and Sandy W, also my biggest supporters, go figure):

Here is my rationale.

Think of real Lizzy at the N. ball. Then add: an extra meeting with Wickham, finding out from Wickham that HB is (supposedly) a sycophantic follower of D a la the superior sisters, and having HB laugh at his good fortune at getting the Kympton gig, saying "I'll have to thank W". (Which would sound pretty bad if you did not understand that situation as we do--we even know that HB is not a sycophant, but EB does not.)

From THIS Lizzy's perspective, HB is callous and heartless and poss even worse than Darcy as D has not mocked W.'s pain (life is pain, princess), and as a clergyman and Bingley's brother, he had farther to fall than the in-disgrace-from-the-Assembly Mr. D.

Wouldn't she react more harshly to HB than she did to D at the real N. Ball, given these conditions?

Maybe not, but that is my perspective and I'm sticking to it. :)

Thank you for keepin the ASOC discussion lively. I was going to post this over there, but I think authorial "my way or the highway" posts discourage negative comments and I enjoy hearing them (mostly) so that I can improve.
